| James and David Codeglia were born in San Jose, CA on December 30th, 1980. They went to school there. Their mother took good care of them. To demonstrate that some computers had the ability to make pictures, their dad drew a smiley face using green text on a black screen. Their aunt Susan taught them to ride their bikes without training wheels, some punk threw Dave’s trumpet off a bridge, and James ran his face into a metal table corner. Dave and James began to draw and put little plays on for their parents. From that point on, parents Ken and Harriet knew their sons would not be doctors. Dang.
They moved to Mountain View, CA when they were 10, continued playing music through middle school, and made movies with their pals on subjects ranging from genies to dragons to an invented race of revolutionary pheasants. At Mountain View High School they discovered a type of band that marches and made seasonal documentaries for the members (edited on a VHS to VHS platform), became counselors for a summer camp for kids at Deer Hollow Farm, and made several films for several classes and pure experimentation. Special effects entered the scene with test videos featuring Dave shooting 26 James clones with laser guns and light sabers. While rollerblading home, James fell on his face and slid, giving him facial scars for a week. Dave laughed. A few weeks later, Dave did the exact same thing. James laughed. Dave had drawn cartoons for the school newspaper and an entire comic book, although he never ever drew during class… sometimes. James became drum major for the band, won some awards, and got really full of himself. He still wears spats today. Dave continued to play trumpet. After USC suggested they’d save money by going to a junior college, the brothers attended De Anza Community College. Mr. Lisha was one great filmmaking professor who made Junior College less excruciating. Dave and James became President and Vice President of the Film and Television Guild, which held movie appreciation screenings every month. To see some articles about the brothers, visit the La Voz newspaper website and type “Codeglia” to search the archives. Dave also created cartoons for the comics page.
Dave and James packed their bags for film school. Their parents were so sad that they turned Dave and James’ rooms into rental space and an office. When the brothers visit, they sleep on the roof or in the garage, depending on the weather. That’s just a joke. Ken and Harriet are completely the best parents in the world. They’re also valued employees of Ghostlight Productions. James attended his final two years of college at Chapman University. Dave was accepted to the film production program at USC. Going to separate schools was new but good. They gained independence as filmmakers while doubling their college experience by attending special film events at both schools. Also, Chapman is full of beautiful girls.
Film school was amazing at both universities. The twins learned so much about movies that they forgot all of the math, science, and other subjects studied in years past. Both are now well-versed in film directing, film cinematography, film editing, film sound… film everything! They graduated in May, 2003 - James graduated on Friday, Dave on Saturday. Though Ghostlight Productions had existed for several years, it finally became a home business that summer. Aside from working on business video projects, Dave and James also spend much of their time working on narrative films as directors, cinematographers, editors, graphic designers, and more. James is developing his technological genius. Dave is still drawing comics. And although it’s almost impossible to keep the website up-to-date on what Ghostlight Productions and its founders are up to… it’s fun to try!
